Night-Time Gecko on a Stone Wall, Reptiles to Color

Coloring guide
A big-eyed gecko with a wide smile clings to a stone wall next to a window, one front foot lifted in a friendly wave. Spots and circles cover its long body, and the curled tail sweeps along the bottom left. The wall is built from chunky rounded bricks, and a flowerpot on the window ledge holds two daisy-like flowers and a few leaves. Behind the gecko, a crescent moon and five little stars light up the night sky. The gecko's spots give kids lots of tiny areas to color, while the big stones and flowers are easier for younger hands. Lime green with orange or yellow spots suits the gecko, and soft grays work for the bricks. Print this free page for a quiet afternoon or a classroom animal unit. A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.
- warm tan
- lime green
- sand beige
- soft blue
- terracotta orange
- slate gray
- golden yellow
- chocolate brown
- tangerine orange
- sky blue
- coral pink
- lavender purple
A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big stone wall blocks: color most of them warm tan and a few of them sand beige, leaving thin white lines between the blocks.
- 2Color the gecko's whole body, head, legs, feet and tail in lime green, leaving the two big eye whites and the belly highlight white.
- 3Add tangerine orange spots across the back, neck, tail and near the feet, and use terracotta orange for the flower pot rim.
- 4Fill the crescent moon and the stars in golden yellow, then color the window frame and ledge in chocolate brown and slate gray.
- 5Paint the flowers with coral pink, lavender purple, soft blue and sky blue petals, and add leaf green to the plant leaves.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker lime green along the gecko's lower edges and under the tan stones for a bit of depth.
