A friendly chameleon with a single big round eye and a sweet smile hangs onto a long, slightly curved branch. Its hands and feet wrap around the wood, and the tail finishes in a neat spiral at the bottom. Curved stripes cross the belly and tail, small scalloped bumps run along the back, and a pointed crest sits on top of the head. Leaves with center veins grow from both sides of the branch, and the background stays plain white. All those stripes and leaves mean lots of small sections to work through, and the big eye is a good spot to practice careful coloring. Turquoise, yellow and bright green could go on the body, with a darker green on the leaves to make the chameleon pop. Preschoolers and early elementary kids who like bold lines with a little detail will enjoy this free printable. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the branch and the tail curl: color the branch brown and fill the big spiral tail with bright green and grass green bands.
- 2Fill the chameleon's body and legs with bright green on the head and arm, and alternate grass green and lime green stripes along the body and tail.
- 3Color the leaves in forest green, leaving the thin twig at the far left white.
- 4Add the back spikes and the eye in golden yellow, then leave the small white gaps between the body, arm and branch uncolored.
- 5Optional: Add a little darker shading in the shadowed areas of the tail and under the body using a slightly deeper green.
