Baby Sea Turtle Over a Ruffled Jellyfish

In this ocean scene, a baby sea turtle with big sparkly eyes and a wide smile glides along right above a large jellyfish. The turtle has a patterned shell, spotted flippers and little dots on its head. Below it, the jellyfish has a ribbed dome and thick, ruffled tentacles, with a few long thin ones trailing down. Wavy lines across the background show moving water, and small bubbles of different sizes float around both creatures. There are lots of small areas to work on, from the frilly tentacles to the flipper patterns, so it works for a range of ages. Soft greens and golden yellows look good on the turtle's shell and flippers, and pink or purple for the jellyfish keeps the two from blending together. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the turtle's shell chocolate brown, leaving the thin dividing lines between the plates white for a nice patchwork look.
- 2Fill the turtle's head, neck, and the smaller flipper edges with yellow green, and color the belly area golden yellow, keeping the eye whites and the open smile white.
- 3Color the big flippers lime green, then add forest green to the round spots on them and on the back flippers and head.
- 4Color the jellyfish's dome lavender purple, and fill the wavy tentacles with baby pink and light pink, adding rose pink to the darker spots near the base.
- 5Color the bubbles and the small dots sky blue, then leave the background and the thin right-side tentacles white. Optional: add a little darker shading along the lower edges of the shell and dome for depth.
