This baby turtle is the captain today. It wears a captain's hat with an anchor badge, grins, and stands on a wooden ship deck with a big rolled-up treasure map held in both flippers. A compass medallion hangs from its neck. On the map you'll spot two small islands with palm trees, a mountain, little waves, and a dotted trail that ends at an X marking the spot. Behind the turtle are a ship railing, the ocean with a wavy horizon, two puffy clouds, and a cabin with a round porthole and a periscope-style pipe on top. The shell and flippers have a bubbly pattern, so there are lots of tiny spaces to fill. A bright green turtle and a sandy tan map would look great, with a red X for the treasure. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big turtle head and neck in light green, leaving the eye whites and the captain hat white.
- 2Color the sea and sky-side areas bright blue, and the porthole glass in sky blue.
- 3Fill the vest and the shell with bright blue and the gray shell patch with light gray, then add the wood brown deck and railing.
- 4Color the treasure map in light cream, the island and palm tree in bright green, and the X and dashed route in your favorite shade.
- 5Add the cherry red ship hull, amber gold porthole rim, and bright yellow anchor and captain hat band in navy blue.
- 6Optional: Finish with forest green spots on the flippers and feet, and pale yellow for the compass and foot soles.
