Wearing goggles pushed up on its head, a curious little otter leans over a rocky shore and holds a big round magnifying glass above a spiral snail shell. Its eyes are wide, it's smiling, and long whiskers fan out on both cheeks. A small crab with big round eyes waves its claws next to the shell, and at the lower left a spiral notebook and pencil rest on the rocks. In the background there are gentle waves, a couple of faraway rocky hills and a few strands of seaweed in the bottom corner. Large shapes and clear outlines make it comfortable for preschoolers and early elementary kids. Warm brown suits the otter's fur, the crab could be soft orange or coral, and the shell looks pretty with a swirl of pink and cream. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the otter's head, body, both arms and paws with brown, and fill the fur patches on top of the head as well.
- 2Fill the goggle straps and the notebook cover with royal blue, keeping the little shine spots on the goggle lenses white.
- 3Color the goggle lenses, the magnifying glass center and the sea with pale blue and sky blue, and paint the magnifier's rim golden yellow while leaving its shine white.
- 4Color the sand with sandy yellow, the shell body with cream and its swirl and stripes with orange, then add the notebook page in cream.
- 5Color the crab red, the seaweed and the hill in leaf green, the rocks and pebble in gray, and the otter's mouth dark red with a pink tongue, leaving the eye whites white.
- 6Optional: add light shading on the shell and the brown fur with a slightly darker tone to make the shapes pop.
