A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big skin areas: color the face, neck, hands, arms, ears and legs with peach skin, leaving the eye whites and any small highlights white.
- 2Color the hat in navy blue, with the top point of the hat in golden yellow, and fill the hair with amber orange.
- 3Fill the shirt with bright red stripes alternating with white stripes, color the sash bright red, and color the shorts navy blue.
- 4Color the cardboard box tan, the fence and sail details soft gold and cream, the bushes leaf green, and the mast caramel brown. Leave the sky white.
- 5Finish the props: make the sword blade light gray with a golden yellow hilt and chocolate brown handle, color the treasure chest chocolate brown with golden yellow trim, and add the navy blue anchor and bright blue porthole with a golden yellow rim.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading on the shorts, the shirt stripes and the box edges to make the drawing feel more dimensional.
