Big Basketball Sitting Under the Hoop on a Court

Right in the middle of the page, one large basketball rests on a court with the hoop behind it. Up top, a rectangular backboard with a smaller square inside holds a rim with a crisscross net, all mounted on a thick pole. A horizontal line cuts across the middle like a baseline, and angled court lines and the sides of the lane stretch out behind the ball. In front, curved lines and oval rings mark the key, with two straight lines heading down to the bottom edge. The seams on the ball are bold and easy to trace. Orange with dark brown seams looks right for the ball, light wood tones work for the court, and red makes a good rim. Lots of open space here, so chunky crayons and markers are no problem for younger kids. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the big basketball all over with bright orange, staying inside the black lines and leaving the dark seams as they are.
- 2Fill the wood floor on both sides of the court and in front of the ball with golden tan.
- 3Color the backboard frame, the blue court pad behind the ball, and the big circle on the floor with sky blue.
- 4Add the green stripe across the wall with sea green, and color the hoop pole light gray.
- 5Leave the window of the backboard, the white court lines, and the white edges of the key area white, then add a few details to finish.
- 6Optional: Add light, diagonal pencil strokes in each color to give the drawing a soft, hand-colored look.
