Bouncy Lion Cub Chasing a Butterfly Through the Grass
Coloring guide
Bounding through tall grass with its front paws up, this happy cub has its mouth open in a big smile and its eyes turned up to a butterfly fluttering overhead. A dotted line traces the butterfly's looping path. The cub has a fluffy tuft of fur on its head, round ears, whiskers, and a long tail with a bushy tip that swings out behind it. Blades of grass fill the lower half of the page, with a few five-petal flowers dotted among them. Large shapes and clear outlines suit preschoolers and early elementary kids, and the fur tufts and grass leave room for older kids to add detail. Golden yellow and warm orange work for the cub, deeper brown for the head tuft and tail tip, and bright purple or blue for the wings so the butterfly stands out. - 2Color the tail tip medium brown and add cream to the belly and the muzzle area.
- 3Shade the chest and cheek fur with peach, then color the inner ears and nose soft pink and the inside of the open mouth deep maroon.
- 4Color the grass blades with grass green and lime green, mixing the two greens so the cub stands out against them.
- 5Color the butterfly wings orange and golden yellow, add bright yellow to its wing spots, and keep the flower petals and eye whites white.
- 6Optional: Add a little forest green to the darkest grass blades near the bottom for extra depth.
