Boy Feeding a Calf Bottle Next to Mother Cow

A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.

• chocolate brown
• bright blue
• lime green
• light peach
• leaf green
• cream
• tomato red
• coral pink
• light wood
• dark brown
• sand tan

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.

1. 1Start with the grass and bushes: fill the lawn with lime green and the bushes at the top right with leaf green.
2. 2Use chocolate brown for the big patch on the mother cow's left side, the calf's brown spots, its tail, and the boy's shoe.
3. 3Color the wooden fence in light wood, and the boy's hair in dark brown.
4. 4Paint the boy's overalls bright blue and his shirt tomato red, then fill his face, hands and arm with light peach.
5. 5Add coral pink to the cow's and calf's ears and the calf's mouth, and color the horns and milk bottle cream. Leave the eye whites and the calf's tail tuft white.
6. 6Optional: add a little dark brown to the hooves and sand tan shading on the calf's head for a bit of depth.
