Dragon Kite Garden Scene for Martial Arts and Lunar New Year
Coloring guide
A smiling boy stands on a stone path in a traditional frog-button jacket, sash and loose pants, holding up a kite string. Above him a long Chinese dragon kite swirls through the sky, with detailed scales, a curling tail, whiskers, and dangling tassels with little flower charms. The scene behind him includes a pagoda on a hill, an arched stone bridge over a pond, mountains, puffy clouds, a twisty pine tree and flowering bushes. Blossoms and grass tufts fill the foreground. Kids who enjoy scale patterns and garden scenes will like it, and it suits martial arts or Lunar New Year themes. Red and gold on the dragon and a deep blue jacket for the boy would stand out against the green garden. Download the free PDF and print a few spare copies. This fits right in with our Martial Arts coloring pages — see also Swimming and NHL / Hockey.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big red areas: color the boy's shirt, sleeves, and trousers in red, leaving the yellow belt and sash for later.
- 2Fill the dragon's head with pale yellow and color the dragon's ribbons and the kite in sky blue, keeping the dragon's body scales and the clouds white.
- 3Color the trees, bushes, and grass with grass green and forest green, mixing a few mint green touches for variety.
- 4Paint the river and its water in sky blue, then color the distant hills and the pagoda roof in teal.
- 5Add the boy's face and hands in peach, his hair in brown, and his shoes in navy blue, leaving the eyes and highlights white.
- 6Optional: Add the golden yellow sash, belt, and cuffs last, and shade the light gray stones for a bit of depth.
