Bunker Shot: Boy Swinging an Iron in the Sand
Coloring guide
A smiling boy in a sun visor, buttoned polo shirt, belted shorts, socks and sneakers swings an iron at a golf ball in a sand bunker. Tiny dots and ovals show sand flying up around the club head, with the ball just above the splash. Grass tufts line the bunker edge behind him, and a flag on a pole marks the hole on a gently rolling green. There's a rounded bush at the far left. All that sand gives little hands a chance to practice stippling or small dabs of color. Yellow and tan for the sand, green for the grass and hills, and a bold red flag would work well. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sand and bunker: color the bunker bank and the left and right bank edges in light orange, leaving the sandy ground white with its small dots.
- 2Fill the background grass and bushes: use lime green for the hills and far field, bright green for the grass edge and tufts, and forest green for the left bush.
- 3Color the boy's skin in light orange, including his face, neck, arms and legs, and keep the two eye whites white.
- 4Add the clothes: shade the shirt, collar and sleeves in sky blue, the cap and visor in royal blue, and the shorts in tan with the belt in tan and a chocolate brown buckle.
- 5Color the hair in dark brown and rust brown, then fill the shoes in royal blue with light gray soles, leaving the socks and golf ball white.
- 6Optional: Finish the flag in red and add a little darker shading under the shoes and along the shirt for depth.
