Popping up out of the open hatch of a round, rivet-covered submarine is a smiling boy in a propeller beanie cap. The sub floats on rippling water and has a big porthole in front, smaller portholes on each side, a little propeller at the back and a tall periscope bending over the top. A rubber duck bobs on the right, a striped beach ball sits at the lower left, and a swim ring floats in the lower right. A brick pool wall and rounded bushes frame everything behind. Kids who like bath-time and pool-day themes will enjoy this free printable, and the large areas are great for chunky crayons. Yellow for both the submarine and the duck looks cheerful, and light and medium blues in the water keep the boy easy to spot. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big yellow parts: fill the submarine hull, the periscope pipe, the cap top and the rubber duck with golden yellow.
- 2Color the porthole rims, hatch edges, the propeller blades and the lower hull band with orange, then fill the propeller hub with tangerine orange and the hatch handle with amber yellow.
- 3Add the boy's details: peach skin on his face and hands, chestnut brown hair, bright blue cap brim, cap crown and pipe collar, and the shirt in bright blue with a dark slate gray strap.
- 4Fill the pool water and the porthole glass with sky blue, the wall bricks with light gray and the wall top with pale beige, then color both bushes grass green.
- 5Finish the beach ball, the life ring stripes and the bright red sections, the teal top cap on the ball, and the periscope lens ring; leave the white stripes, the ball center panel and the shirt collar white. Optional: add a few darker strokes on the hull edges for depth.
