Boy on a Ladder Reaching for an Apple

Coloring guide
A smiling boy is up on a wooden ladder that leans against a big apple tree. He stretches one arm toward a round apple still hanging from a branch. His outfit is a short-sleeved shirt, shorts, socks and sneakers, and his hair sticks up in tufts. Around him the tree is full of more apples and leafy branches with scalloped edges. Over at the bottom right, a woven basket holding a couple of apples sits next to the thick trunk. In the background you'll find grass tufts and rounded bushes. Big shapes and clear lines make this free printable a good fit for preschoolers and early elementary kids. Red and green work for the apples, and warm brown for the ladder, basket and trunk. A bright shirt color helps the boy stand out from the leaves. Looking for more? Our Girl Power and Hot Dog coloring pages pair nicely with this Apple page.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big tree leaves and grass: color the leafy tree crown in forest green and the grass patches in grass green, leaving the ground and tree trunk white.
- 2Color the boy's shirt in sky blue and his shorts in denim blue, then fill his face and arms with light peach.
- 3Paint the ladder and its rungs in golden tan, and use chocolate brown for the tree branches and the boy's hair.
- 4Color all the apples in apple red, including the ones in the tree and the two in the basket, leaving the small highlights white if you like.
- 5Fill the basket with golden tan weave and the handle with chocolate brown, then color the boy's shoes bright blue and his socks white.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading on the shadowed side of the leaves and under the shirt for extra depth.
