Guide Dog and Cane Walk: Diversity & Inclusion Coloring Page
Coloring guide
A smiling boy in a hooded sweatshirt and sneakers walks along a sidewalk with a long white cane in one hand and the handle of his guide dog's harness in the other. The dog has floppy ears and its tongue out, and wears a wide harness as it trots beside him. Behind them are a tall street lamp, a picket fence, rounded bushes, and a few neighborhood houses with chimneys and paned windows. Teachers can use this free printable to talk about guide dogs, blindness and helping each other. Younger kids will like the big open shapes on the hoodie and the dog, while older kids can spend time on the houses and bushes. A golden yellow coat on the dog and a bright red harness will stand out against green bushes. - 1Start with the big background areas: fill the sky-free street and sidewalk spaces with pale gray, and the road with cool gray.
- 2Color the grass, bushes and trees in grass green and lime green, leaving the picket fence white.
- 3Fill the boy's hoodie in bright blue, the jeans in steel blue, and the backpack in charcoal gray, keeping the cane white.
- 4Color the dog in golden yellow, then add the brown harness and leash in chocolate brown and the face and hands in peach skin.
- 5Paint the houses with cream walls, coral red roof, and light sky blue windows, and color the lamp glass pale yellow with the post in dark teal.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading in the shadows under the dog and boy for depth, and keep the eye whites, cane tip and sneaker soles white.
