Building a Sandcastle as a Family at the Beach
Coloring guide
Four people crowd around a tall sandcastle on the beach: a woman with a ponytail, a grandfatherly man in glasses and a polo shirt, a little boy, and a girl with a headband. The woman digs with a small shovel and the man holds a bucket. The boy scoops sand next to a second bucket, while the girl pats the side of a castle tower. The castle has a flag on top, arched doorways and pointed turrets. Wavy ocean lines run behind them, and a scallop shell, a spiral shell and a toy shovel lie on the sand up front. Large shapes and clear outlines work well for preschoolers and early elementary kids. Golden yellow and light tan fit the castle, and red or blue buckets and shovels will pop. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with sky blue for the sea and the wave lines, leaving the white foam stripes uncolored.
- 2Color the woman's top rose pink and the man's polo shirt light blue, then fill his pants with tan.
- 3Fill the sandcastle and the sand mounds with golden yellow, keeping the white sand highlights near the bottom uncolored.
- 4Color all skin areas with skin tone, the woman and boy's hair chestnut brown, the man's hair light gray, and the girl's hair orange.
- 5Finish the boy's grass green shirt, royal blue shorts, bright blue bucket and shovel, red bucket and shovel, purple swimsuit, and peach shells.
- 6Optional: add a slightly darker tan shade along the castle walls and under the sand mounds for depth.
