Cathedral Domes Behind Three Matryoshka Dolls

On a cobblestone square, three smiling nesting dolls stand side by side, the tallest in the middle with a smaller one on each side. They wear patterned headscarves and have rosy round cheeks. Flowers, leaves and swirling vines cover their bodies, and each apron has a big blossom at the center. A cathedral rises behind them with lots of onion domes, some swirled, some zigzagged and some scaled, each topped with a cross. At the right edge is a tall clock tower. Bushes, two street lamps, small flower beds, puffy clouds and four little birds complete the scene. Kids get lots of room to work on the big flowers and domes. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sky clouds in sky blue and the big trees and bushes in fresh green, leaving the bird bodies and the dome highlights white.
- 2Color the three dolls' faces and cheeks in warm peach, keeping the eye whites and bright spots white.
- 3Fill the dolls' aprons and dresses with royal blue, then add the cherry red headscarves and bows.
- 4Add golden yellow to the bottom bands of the center doll and the cathedral domes, and use mustard gold for the lower edge of the left doll.
- 5Finish the cobblestone street in light gray and add cherry red and dusty rose accents to the flowers and church wall.
- 6Optional: Add a little extra shading in darker tones along the bottom of each doll to make the flowers and patterns pop.
