Chameleon with Spiral Tail Gripping a Leafy Branch

Coloring guide
A cheerful chameleon holding onto a curved branch is shown on this free printable coloring page. It has big round eyes, a wide smile and a pointed, helmet-like head tilted toward you, with tiny nostril dots that make it look friendly. The striped body arches over the branch and a row of bumpy scales runs down its back. Both front feet grip the wood, one back foot is tucked underneath, and the tail finishes in a tight spiral. Three large veined leaves hang at the lower right. Thick outlines and roomy shapes work well for preschoolers and early elementary kids, while the stripes and the spiral tail give older children more to chew on. You could give each stripe its own shade, like green, teal, yellow and orange, and keep the leaves plain green so the chameleon pops. Looking for more? A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the chameleon's head and front legs in light green, leaving the big eye whites and the small nose area white.
- 2Fill the tail spiral and the top of the body with grass green and bright yellow, alternating bands so the tail looks striped.
- 3Color the branch in warm brown and the stem in dark tan, keeping the small highlight areas on the arm and belly white.
- 4Add forest green to the leaves and the darker body bands, and use orange for the little spikes along the back.
- 5Optional: Add a slightly darker shade of green along the lower edges of the body to make it look rounder.
