Cherry Tree and Axe Presidents' Day Coloring Page
Coloring guide
A leafy cherry tree fills the whole page, with pairs of round cherries dangling from long stems, five-petal blossoms and pointed leaves all through the branches. An axe rests against the left side of the trunk, and a woven basket piled with cherries sits at the base on the right. Small tufts of grass mark the ground, and a couple of rolling hills with puffy bushes sit behind. The axe and cherries recall the famous cherry tree story about George Washington, so it's a natural pick for Presidents' Day. The trunk has bark lines and a knot that kids can shade in browns. Deep red cherries, soft pink blossoms and fresh green leaves would look lovely. Download the free PDF for a classroom project or weekend craft. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the grass and the hills: color the hills and the grass patches in lime green, and the small left hill in bright green.
- 2Fill the leaves with dark green and bright green, mixing the two so some leaves look darker than others.
- 3Color all the cherries, including the ones in the basket, in cherry red, leaving a small white shine on each one.
- 4Color the axe head light gray and the axe handle and basket with wood tan, then add brown to the branches and the small brown branch piece near the trunk.
- 5Keep the blossoms, tree trunk, and branches white, and add a little light green to the small leaf near the trunk for a fresh finish.
- 6Optional: Add a little coral pink to the small bud at the top of the tree for a soft pop of color.
