Here comes a happy steam engine puffing over a stone arch bridge with two railway cars of circus animals in tow. A giraffe with a spotted neck peeks out of the first car, a boldly striped zebra leans from the middle one, and a grinning monkey waves from the window just behind the engine. Smoke curls up from the tall stack into a sky dotted with cloud outlines. Past the tracks, rolling hills lead to a striped big top with a tiny flag on its peak, along with some bushes and a fence at the edge. A little stream runs under the bridge past rocks and grass. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sky and hills: color the big clouds sky blue, and fill the rolling hills and grass with grass green, adding lime green bushes on the sides.
- 2Fill the bridge and its arch with sand beige, then color the river rocks light gray and the arch stones tan for a little contrast.
- 3Paint the steam train: color the boiler body and cab royal blue, the smokestack and cowcatcher bright red, and the wheels deep teal.
- 4Color the passenger cars warm brown, and fill the giraffe, zebra and monkey's car sections with the same brown for a cozy look.
- 5Add golden yellow to the circus tent stripes, the giraffe spots, and the bell and lamp on top of the train.
- 6Finish with details: leave the round boiler porthole white, and add orange and dark red accents on the train as you like. Optional: add a darker shade to the bottom edges of the bridge for depth.
