A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the background hills, grass fields and the grass tufts with lime green, and the bushes on the left and right with medium green.
- 2Fill the horse's body, neck, legs and head with caramel brown, leaving the muzzle white, then color the horse's mane, tail and forelock with pale cream.
- 3Color the boy's face and hat with pale cream, the shirt with sky blue and the jeans with navy blue, then add chestnut brown to the belt and boots.
- 4Color the barn with cherry red and the barn roof with light steel gray, keep the silo white, and paint the fence rails and posts with light brown.
- 5Add the red saddle blanket, the golden yellow edge of the blanket, the chestnut brown saddle and stirrups, and the charcoal gray hooves.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of caramel brown on the horse's shadowed side and light brown on the fence for a bit of depth.
