Bedtime Story Bat on a Tree Branch

Coloring guide
Sitting on a tree branch is a smiling baby bat with big pointy ears and round sparkly eyes, holding an open storybook in its tiny claws. The pages show a leafy tree, rolling hills, clouds, a round moon, a crescent moon and little stars, so it feels like a bedtime tale. Four friendly fireflies hover around the bat, and a small candle lantern hangs from the branch on a loop of rope. Leaves sprout from the thick trunk on the left. The wide wings and large open shapes make this free printable easy for little hands, and the tiny stars and clouds give older kids some detail. Soft purple or deep blue would look good on the wings, with warm yellow for the lantern flame and glowing fireflies so the light shows up against the cool colors. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the bat's head, belly and shoulders warm gray, and fill the inner ears and the nose with coral pink. Leave the eye whites white.
- 2Paint both big wings lavender purple, including the wing tips and the upper edges, so the bat looks like it is holding its book.
- 3Color the open book's pages sky blue, then add bright green and leaf green hills and a leaf green tree on the left page. Add a golden yellow spine detail.
- 4Fill the sun and moon on the book with lemon yellow, and leave the little stars white. Optional: add a few darker gray lines under the bat for shading.
- 5Color the tree branch and trunk chestnut brown, add leaf green leaves, then paint the lantern slate blue with a pale cream candle and lemon yellow glow inside.
- 6Finish the fireflies with pale blue wings and lemon yellow bodies, and leave the background and the lantern hook white.
