On a rounded grassy hill, a smiling baby bat waves one wing in the air and uses the other to hold a strap on a small backpack. He's wearing a baseball cap with a button on top. Big pointy ears, round sparkly eyes and a tiny open-mouthed grin make him look cheerful and friendly. Two scalloped pine trees, some puffy bushes and little tufts of grass sit behind him. The lines are bold and the shapes are large, so this free printable suits preschoolers and early elementary kids. A soft purple or gray works for his fur, and bright red or blue for the cap, with a different color on the backpack so it pops. The pine trees are good for practicing layers of green. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the bat's body, arms, legs and feet in light brown, leaving the belly area and the eye whites untouched.
- 2Color the big wings with lavender gray, then fill the inside of both ears with coral pink and the outer ears with light brown.
- 3Add the cap in sky blue on the crown and bright red on the brim, and fill the backpack straps and body with sky blue.
- 4Paint the pine trees on both sides in forest green, adding lime green to the small grass tuft at the bottom and light brown to the tree trunks.
- 5Fill the open mouth with dark maroon and the small buckle on the backpack with silver gray, leaving the eye whites, the snow and the bush edges white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker rust brown along the inner edge of the right ear and under the wing for a bit of shading.
