Sleepy Otter Swimming on Its Back With a Shell

Coloring guide
A smiling baby otter floats on its back in the water, holding a scallop shell against its chest with both front paws. Round eyes, a little nose, whiskers and a curved smile give it a sweet, sleepy look, and both hind feet poke up toward the bottom of the page. Three lily pads sit in the corners, and curved ripple lines around the otter show the water moving gently. Big, open shapes make this free printable easy for younger kids, and the fur tufts and whiskers give older kids some detail to work on. Soft browns and tan fit the body, with lighter cream on the face and belly and a pink or lavender shell that stands out. Bright green lily pads and light blue ripples finish it off. This fits right in with our Swimming coloring pages — see also Tennis and Volleyball.
A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.
- warm brown
- pale cream
- leaf green
- peach pink
A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the two lily pads in leaf green, leaving the thin water lines and pad veins as they are.
- 2Fill the otter's head, arms, and feet with warm brown, keeping the eye whites and the shiny highlights white.
- 3Color the belly and the lower body in pale cream so it stands out against the brown fur.
- 4Fill the seashell held on the chest with peach pink, working from the center outward.
- 5Optional: Add a little darker brown along the edges of the head and body for a bit of depth.
- 6Finish by leaving the water background white, or add light ripple lines around the otter if you like.
