Dad is leaning on the counter in his apron, grinning, while his little girl stirs a big mixing bowl with a wooden spoon. She has a ponytail and an apron of her own, and she's smiling too. Kids who like helping in the kitchen will probably enjoy this one. On the counter sit a carton of eggs, a measuring cup, a small bowl and a paper bag of flour or sugar. Farther back you can spot a stove with a pot on top, shelves with stacked bowls, a jar and a potted plant, plus a utensil holder with a spatula and spoon. The aprons and sweaters are big open spaces, and the oven knobs are tiny details for careful hands. A strawberry red apron for the girl and a soft sky blue bowl would look great. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the skin: paint the dad and the girl peach, including faces, ears, necks and hands, and leave the eye whites, teeth and the small white highlights unpainted.
- 2Fill the dad's shirt and sleeves with sky blue, then color his apron and the apron strap navy blue.
- 3Color the girl's pink top and apron with rose pink and hot pink, and paint her hair and ponytail chestnut brown.
- 4Paint the big mixing bowl and the small bowl on the counter sky blue and red, fill the batter with pale yellow, and color the wooden spoon light orange.
- 5Add the kitchen details: the red pot and canister, the gray stove and oven, the green plant and bowl, the golden yellow jar and paper bag, and the light orange eggs in the carton.
- 6Optional: add a slightly darker shade of each color along the folds of the sleeves and under the bowl to give the drawing more depth.
