This low, sleek race car is taking a sharp curve at top speed, kicking up dust and smoke behind its rear wheel. Look for the pointed nose, the two big rounded cockpit openings, a pair of vents on the rear hood and star-shaped spokes on the wheels. Tufts of grass, a few small rocks and bushy shrubs line the road beside a tall layered cliff. Way off in the background, a wide stretch of water and some distant hills fill the top of the page, and curved lines show the road sweeping into the distance. Red or electric blue would make the car stand out, while tan and gray work nicely for the dusty clouds and the cliff. Print it at home and keep a few spare copies on hand. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the main race car body, including the nose, side panels and rear fender, with bright red, leaving the big headlight eyes white.
- 2Fill the grassy hills at the top of the page and the bushes beside the road with grass green, and color the hilltop grass patches with lime green.
- 3Color the dust clouds behind the car and on its right side with medium gray and light gray, giving them soft puffy edges.
- 4Color the front hood vents, the grille and the lower car panel with charcoal gray, and the hood center with slate blue gray.
- 5Color the rocky ledges on the left with tan or cream, and fill the small rocks at the bottom right with tan.
- 6Optional: add a few darker shadows under the car and along the wheel arches with charcoal gray to make it pop.
