Diamond-Patterned Snake with Leafy Plants

Coloring guide
Rising from a loose coil with its head tilted, this cheerful snake has big round eyes, a happy smile and a little forked tongue out. Large diamond shapes run down its body, and simple horizontal stripes mark the belly, leaving roomy spaces for small hands. A leafy plant stands on each side of it, with a few grass tufts and a couple of small rocks on the ground. Lines are bold and clean, so preschoolers and early elementary kids should find it friendly. Try alternating green and yellow diamonds with a pale cream belly, then use bright colors on the leaves for contrast. This free printable is good for quiet time at home or a classroom activity about animals. This page is part of our Snake coloring pages collection — check out Puppies and Cats too.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the snake's body and leaves: color the large green areas of the body and both leaf clusters with grass green, leaving the eye whites and background white.
- 2Fill the snake's head top and the bottom curls of the body with lime green for a lighter shade that adds depth.
- 3Color the yellow stripes running along the body and tail with lemon yellow, filling each band between the lines.
- 4Fill each diamond pattern on the body with tangerine orange, working from the top of the snake down to the tail.
- 5Color the tongue coral pink and the two pebbles at the bottom warm gray.
- 6Optional: Add a few darker strokes of grass green on the leaves and body for a little extra texture, and leave small white highlights in the eyes.
