Here's a little fairy with long flowing hair and a flower above her ear, floating in mid-air with her arms stretched wide. She's grinning at a cheerful butterfly that faces her. The butterfly has big round eyes, curly antennae with round tips, a striped body, and wings decorated with circles and curved sections. The fairy wears a sleeveless top and a layered petal skirt, and her large wings have rainbow-like stripes. Three fluffy outlined clouds and three little stars dot the sky, so there's lots of open space. Wide wing sections and simple shapes work well for preschoolers and early elementary kids, and the hair and skirt petals give older children a bit more to do. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the three clouds and the big blue sections of both wings with sky blue, leaving the fairy's hair flower and the star shapes for later.
- 2Fill the fairy's dress layers with soft pink, use bright pink for her bodice and the bottom of the dress, and color her shoes rose pink.
- 3Color the fairy's skin and arms with light peach, then fill her long hair and the back strands with chestnut brown and add the flower in soft pink.
- 4Color the outer wings of the fairy and the butterfly's lower-left wing with lavender purple, and the butterfly's upper and lower wing outlines with rose pink.
- 5Color the bug's head with pale yellow, its body segments with orange and amber, and the stars, antenna tips and wing spots with bright yellow, keeping the eyes and small highlights white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the edges of the wings and the hair for extra depth.
