Smiling right at you, a little fairy sits with her knees tucked to one side on a big, open water lily. Her hair is in a bun topped with a flower, with a few curly strands beside her face, and she has large round eyes, pointed ears and a petal-style dress with a heart-shaped neckline. Her two big wings are full of line detail, so there are lots of sections to fill in. Lily pads float around her on rippled pond water, and tall cattails rise on both the left and right sides. Wide petals and large wings suit small hands, while the ripples and wing lines are there for kids who like finer work. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big lotus flower: color all the petals blush pink and the lower lotus petals rose pink, leaving the highlights white.
- 2Color the fairy's dress and leaves with lime green and grass green, and her skin with peach skin, keeping the cheek and chin highlights white.
- 3Fill both wings with pale blue, then add a few light strokes of sky blue along the wing edges for a soft, glassy look.
- 4Color the lily pads and grass with grass green and forest green, and paint the lotus base and the orange shorts with golden yellow and tangerine orange.
- 5Finish the hair and cattails with chestnut brown, and color the flower in her hair blush pink.
- 6Optional: Add a little shading with a slightly darker shade of each color near the edges, and leave the water patch as sky blue for a splash of color.
