A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sky and distant hills: color the sky areas light blue and add a touch of ice blue to the fluffy cloud at the top right, leaving the cloud's center white.
- 2Fill the big tree with chestnut brown for the trunk and branches, then color the leaves with leaf green and grass green, leaving the small white blossom flecks untouched.
- 3Color the grass, bushes and the lake with grass green and sky blue, and paint the picnic cloth area with navy blue and cream as shown.
- 4Add skin tones with light peach on the faces, arms, hands and knees, then fill the man's shirt and the lake-side details with sky blue and the woman's dress with sunny yellow.
- 5Color the boy's jeans navy blue, the girl's dress with hot pink and rose pink, and the boy's hair with golden yellow, keeping the eyes and small highlights white.
- 6Optional: Use cream for the pitcher and cups, rose pink for the sandwiches, and a slightly darker shade of the same color on the edges for a little depth.
