Picnic Under the Tree, a Family Day Out with a Kite
Coloring guide
Mom, dad, a little boy and a little girl all sit and smile on a checkered blanket in the shade of a big leafy tree. The two kids sit cross-legged up front, each holding a sandwich in both hands. Next to them you'll spot a woven basket with a handle, a plate of triangle-cut sandwiches, and a bowl of fruit that looks like apples, grapes and a banana. Overhead, a diamond kite with a bow-tied tail drifts near some puffy clouds, and small grass tufts dot the ground. The blanket squares and tree bark give patient colorers lots to do. Red and white checks would look classic, and red apples in the bowl would match. Print this free page for a quick coloring break any time. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big tree: color the trunk chestnut brown and the leafy canopy grass green, then add leaf green in the darker shadows under the leaves.
- 2Fill the picnic blanket squares with tomato red, leaving the lighter checks white, and color the basket and sandwich plate in cream white and peach skin.
- 3Color the family's clothes: the man's shirt and the woman's jeans in royal blue, the woman's top and the girl's pants in lavender purple, the boy's shirt in tomato red and the girl's shirt in candy pink.
- 4Add skin tones with peach skin on the faces, necks, arms and hands, and use auburn brown for the woman's hair, dark brown for the man's hair and golden yellow for the girl's hair.
- 5Color the kite in tomato red, golden yellow and royal blue, the fruit bowl in bright blue, and the apple and grapes with tomato red and golden yellow.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading to the tree trunk and the shirts, and leave the clouds and eye whites white to make the faces pop.
