Family Picnic With Flag and Dog for Presidents' Day
Coloring guide
A smiling family of four sits on a checkered blanket in the shade of a big leafy tree, each with a sandwich. Dad wears a polo shirt, mom has a wide-brimmed sun hat, and the long-haired girl and the boy in a striped shirt look happy as they chat. A woven picnic basket overflows with grapes, bananas and apples, and a thermos, a plate of sandwiches, an apple and a small container of berries sit close by. A friendly dog lies in the grass up front. In the background you'll spot a tall flagpole with a stars-and-stripes flag, a lake with a little sailboat, distant hills, a park bench and flowers. There are lots of small details here, so it's a good free printable for patient crayons. Bright red and blue on the flag and juicy purple on the grapes would look great. This fits right in with our Presidents' Day coloring pages — see also Happy Birthday and Cupid (Valentine's).

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big background: fill the sky in light blue, the lake in sky blue, and the distant mountains in sea green.
- 2Color the grass in grass green, then the tree leaves and bushes in leaf green and forest green, and finish the tree trunk in bark brown.
- 3Fill the picnic blanket in sand beige and cream, and color the basket in honey brown with the apple in bright red.
- 4Dress the people: dad's and the blue shirt in royal blue, mom's top in soft pink, the girl's shirt in lemon yellow, and faces and hands in peach skin, leaving the eye whites white.
- 5Color the dog and the mom's hat in golden yellow, dad's hair in chestnut brown, and the flag stripes in blush pink and bright red, keeping the white flag stripe white.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading to the dog and the grass with the same colors for more depth.
