Farmer Shearing a Calm Sheep in the Barn
Coloring guide
A friendly farmer wearing a wide-brimmed hat, plaid shirt and overalls kneels on a wooden barn floor and shears a calm, smiling sheep with electric clippers. One arm is looped gently around the sheep's neck, and the cord trails off to the left. The wool is half trimmed, with a big fluffy pile of fleece in front and a few small tufts scattered around. On the plank wall behind them hang a coiled rope and a pitchfork, and you'll also see hay bundles, two wooden buckets, and a window that looks out on a red barn, a fence and a windmill under puffy clouds. Curly wool and the plaid pattern give kids lots of small spaces to fill. Cream and light gray work for the fleece, and red and blue checks for the shirt. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big blue areas: color the farmer's denim overalls and jeans in denim blue, leaving the bib pocket and straps for the same color.
- 2Fill the sky in the picture window with sky blue and the hills and bushes with grass green, then add the olive green grass field and steel gray barn roof.
- 3Color the farmer's plaid shirt sleeves and shirt in red, then paint his face, hands and neck peach skin and his hair light brown.
- 4Shade the sheep's wool and face with off white and light cream, leaving the ears and eye whites untouched, then color the hooves dark gray.
- 5Use golden tan for the wooden walls, floor and beams, light brown for the wood shelves and buckets, and golden yellow for the hay bales.
- 6Optional: Leave the wool pile on the floor and the highlights white, and add dark brown to the hat band, barrels and boots for extra depth.
