Sleepy Bats in a Haunted House Attic
Coloring guide
Up in a cozy attic, four sleepy bats hang upside down from a wooden beam, each one wrapped in its wings like a little blanket. The big bat in the middle has large round eyes, pointed ears and a tiny smile. Two smaller bats dangle on the left, and a third hangs at the upper right next to a spiderweb in the corner. A round four-pane window shows a crescent moon and twinkling stars. Down on the floor sit a closed treasure chest with a keyhole and metal bands, plus a wooden crate and a plank in the lower left. Wing stripes and wood boards give kids plenty of little sections to fill in. Soft purples and grays would suit the bats, midnight blue works for the window sky, and browns are nice for the chest. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big background: fill the walls, floor planks and the wall behind the window with honey tan, leaving the window area for later.
- 2Fill the beams, the wooden crate and the chest with caramel brown, and use chocolate brown on the darkest beams and the chest body.
- 3Color all the bat wings in lavender purple, and use dusty purple for the shadowy folds under the big bat's wing and the hanging loop at the top.
- 4Fill the bat faces with light gray and the inner ears with soft pink, keeping the eyes white.
- 5Color the window's night sky in navy blue, then add the crescent moon, the chest straps and the lock details in golden yellow, keeping the stars and the spider web white.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading with navy blue or chocolate brown along the edges of the wings and beams for depth.
