Four Jack-o'-Lanterns Below a Haunted House on a Hill

At the top of a grassy hill stands a two-story house with a pointed center gable, arched windows, a brick chimney and a lantern over the arched wooden front door. From the door, a winding stepping-stone path runs down to four grinning jack-o'-lanterns, each with a curly stem and its own happy face. Round bushes flank the house, a bare tree stands on the right and three stars twinkle overhead. The faces are friendlier than scary, so it's a nice choice for younger kids who like Halloween but not the frights. The large pumpkins and wide shapes are easy for small hands to color. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the house walls, tower, and side gables with lavender purple, leaving the window areas for later.
- 2Color the roof edges and trims light orange, the roof shingles charcoal gray, and the chimney light gray.
- 3Fill all four pumpkins with pumpkin orange and their stems with leaf green, keeping the eye whites and teeth white.
- 4Color the bushes on both sides of the house with leaf green and forest green, the tree trunk dark brown, the front door warm brown, and the window sills dark brown or warm brown.
- 5Fill the window panes with pale yellow, the lantern light orange, and the star lemon yellow.
- 6Color the front steps and stepping stones light gray. Optional: add a little darker shading along the edges of the pumpkins and walls for depth.
