Four Bats Asleep in a Mushroom Cave
Coloring guide
Four little bats hang upside down from the rocky ceiling of a cave, snug in their wings with their eyes closed. One large bat sits front and center with a tiny pig-like nose, big ears and a fluffy chest. A medium bat hangs on each side of it, and a smaller bat dangles in the background between them. Pointed stalactites drip from the ceiling above. On the cave floor, spotted mushrooms grow on mounds of rock next to small grass tufts and flat stepping stones, and one little mushroom even has a sleepy face. The wings have simple striped sections that are easy for small hands to fill in. Dusty blues and soft purples fit the wings, and warm reds or oranges suit the mushroom caps. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the cave ceiling, the rocks and the pebbles on the ground: fill them with warm gray, and use medium gray for the darker rock and pebble areas.
- 2Color all four bats' wings and folded bodies violet purple, working from the big bat in the middle outward to the smaller bats.
- 3Fill the bats' faces, paws and round body shapes with medium gray, then color the ears and the little nose coral pink.
- 4Color the mushroom caps bright red, leave the mushroom stems pale cream, and add grass green to the small mushroom stem and sand tan to the small stem near the right mushroom.
- 5Optional: Add darker shading with dark taupe and dark olive along the bottom of the wings, the mushroom bases and the grass to make the cave feel deeper.
