Mountain Monument With Eagle for Presidents' Day
Coloring guide
Four friendly, smiling men's faces rise from a rocky mountainside, like a giant carved monument. One has wavy hair and a high collar, one has round glasses and a bushy mustache, and one wears a full beard and a bow tie. Above them a bald eagle soars on wide wings, with puffy clouds and layered mountain peaks behind it. Rows of evergreens fill the valley below, and a small rocky stream winds toward the bottom edge. It suits a Presidents' Day lesson or a calm afternoon at the table. Warm gray and tan work for the stone faces, deep green for the pines, and rich brown for the eagle. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sky and mountains: color the sky and the distant peaks pale blue and sky blue, and leave the clouds and the eagle's wing edges white.
- 2Fill the faces with peach, and color the hair and the eagle's body caramel brown; keep the shirt collars white.
- 3Color the jackets: navy blue for the left man's jacket and tie, and chocolate brown for the third man's and right man's jackets.
- 4Cover the forest and hills with lime green and pine green, then use leaf green and bright green for the hillsides and the trees on the right.
- 5Add the stream in sky blue and the rocks in warm gray, leaving small white patches for splashes on the water.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the trees and the jackets with a deeper shade of the same color to add depth.
