With a big smile and round eyes, this steam locomotive rolls down the track and blows a large curly cloud of smoke from its chimney. It pulls a stack of cut logs, an open wagon piled with boxes, and a round barrel-shaped tank car at the very end. The track crosses a grassy field with small tufts of grass, rounded bushes or tree lines along the horizon and three fluffy clouds above. Wheels, rivets and wooden railroad ties give kids lots of detail, and the large open shapes are good for younger children. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the clouds in sky blue, leaving the steam puffs white so they stand out against the sky.
- 2Color the bushes and grass in leafy green and lime green, keeping the background open where the track meets the ground.
- 3Fill the engine body, cab and boiler in bright blue, then add golden yellow on the trim, dome and headlamp.
- 4Color the log stacks and their ends in brown, and the crates in light orange, adding orange to the tank car.
- 5Paint the chimney, cowcatcher, red crate car and front bumpers in red, then color the wheels charcoal and the face light gray.
- 6Optional: Add a coral pink smile and a little amber on the bumpers, and leave the steam and eye areas white for a bright finish.
