This little steam engine sits on a short piece of track, sending a big round cloud of smoke up from its tall chimney. Its boiler has a friendly face with big eyes, rosy cheeks and a sweet smile, and a round headlamp sits on top. Behind the boiler you'll see a boxy cab with a square window and flat roof, plus a small dome on the engine's back. Two spoked wheels are linked by a connecting rod, and a striped cowcatcher sits out front. Thick, bold outlines and roomy open spaces keep it easy for little hands. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the smoke cloud light gray, leaving the outline clean and the background white.
- 2Fill the cab, the smokestack, the front ramp, the small block at the bottom right and the lower frame with sky blue.
- 3Color the boiler middle and its two sides bright red, then add golden yellow to the front rim, the cab roof, the dome, the connecting rod and the wheel hubs.
- 4Fill the track rails and sleepers with wood brown, the big wheel spokes with dusty rose, muted plum and slate gray, and the small wheel spokes with bright red and brick red.
- 5Color the smokestack cap pale yellow, the window pale aqua and the headlamp ring amber orange, leaving the headlamp glass and the eye whites white.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading on the boiler and wheels for depth, and keep the face light gray with the eyes and smile left as they are.
