A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.

• tan
• sky blue
• orange
• royal blue
• charcoal gray
• golden yellow
• pale blue
• grass green
• chestnut brown
• pale olive

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.

1. 1Start with the dog's face and muzzle in tan, leaving the eye whites and the small cheek highlight white.
2. 2Fill the kitten's body, head, and tail in orange, then add a few darker orange stripes on the tail.
3. 3Color the dog's shirt, sleeve, and hat in sky blue, and the trousers in royal blue.
4. 4Add the dog's ears in chestnut brown, the paw in tan, and the bushes and grass in grass green.
5. 5Color the shoes charcoal gray and the sun, shirt pocket, and hat emblem in golden yellow.
6. 6Finish with pale blue clouds, and optionally add a little shading on the shirt with a slightly darker blue.
