Garden Helper Troll Watering Carrots and Sunflowers

Tipping a watering can over a row of young carrots, this smiling troll has pointy ears, spiky tufts of hair and a big round nose. You can see water drops falling from the sprinkler head. His ragged-hem outfit has overall straps, and his big bare feet are planted in the soil. Tall sunflowers fill the left side of the page, and another stands on the right next to a small wooden fence and a wheelbarrow heaped with soil. Tufts of grass dot the ground. The carrots have feathery leafy tops, which are good practice for small, careful strokes. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the troll's face, ears, arms and legs in pale lime, leaving the eye whites, the fence and the white sunflower petals empty.
- 2Fill the overalls with denim blue and the watering can with tomato red, keeping the spout and handle bright.
- 3Color the grass with grass green and the carrot leaves with leaf green, then add carrot orange to the carrots and chocolate brown to the soil beds.
- 4Paint the sunflower petals golden yellow and their centers dark brown, leaving the white petals on the left and right sunflowers unfilled.
- 5Color the troll's hair carrot orange and the nose sunny orange, then add the pale yellow sleeves and the wheelbarrow in sky blue.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading in dark maroon under the watering can and in the soil to give depth.
