This cartoon horse is mid-gallop and clearly having a great time. It has big sparkly eyes, long eyelashes and an open, happy mouth. The wavy mane blows back in the wind and the fluffy tail swirls out behind, so there are lots of curvy lines to follow with a crayon. Perked ears and bent front legs show the motion nicely. Behind the horse is a rolling grassy hill with tufts of grass up front, a small bush on the right and three puffy clouds overhead. The big open body is friendly for preschoolers and early elementary kids, and the page is a free printable that takes a few seconds to grab. Chestnut brown for the coat and golden blonde for the mane and tail look great, with green grass and a blue sky around them. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the clouds and the small cloud on the left with sky blue, leaving the inside of the clouds open for the sky.
- 2Fill the whole horse body, face, neck and front and back legs with caramel brown, keeping the gaps between the legs and under the belly white.
- 3Color the flowing mane, forelock and tail with pale yellow, then add golden yellow to the darker strands near the top of the mane and at the base of the tail.
- 4Color the hooves charcoal gray, the inside of both ears and the tongue coral pink, leaving the eyes and their shiny highlights white.
- 5Color the bushes on the left and right with grass green, and the grass patch behind the hind leg with leaf green, leaving the rest of the hill and the background white.
- 6Optional: add a few light strokes of darker brown on the sides of the body and legs to give the horse a little shadow.
