Wearing a polka-dot headscarf, a smiling matryoshka tilts a flower-decorated watering can and sprinkles drops over a row of garden blooms. She has a knotted neckerchief and a scalloped-edge apron with a big flower on the front. Along the bottom, tulips alternate with two sunflowers that have crosshatched centers. A wooden picket fence and a few leafy bushes stand behind her, a butterfly flutters at the right, and a puffy cloud floats in the top corner. Crayons, markers or colored pencils all suit the large shapes and open spaces, and the dotted scarf is great for practicing careful circles. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the face and hands with peach, leaving the eye whites, the smile and the cheeks light.
- 2Fill the headscarf and neckerchief with cherry red, then add the polka dots in white.
- 3Color the blouse and sleeves with golden yellow, and the skirt on the sides with bright blue.
- 4Fill the watering can with leaf green, leaving the flower and the shine on the top white.
- 5Color the hair with warm brown, the fence with honey gold, and the tulips and grass with cherry red and lime green.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading in the corners of the blouse and under the scarf to make the drawing pop.
