Giraffe Family Walking Across the Savanna
Coloring guide
Four giraffes stroll through tall grass on the savanna: two tall adults with long patterned necks and two smaller calves close beside them. One calf stays by the left side of the biggest giraffe, and the other walks in the middle between the adults' legs. All four have friendly faces, small horn-like knobs, and tufted tails. Behind them are flat-topped acacia trees, low bushes, faraway hills, a large round sun low on the horizon, and a few puffy clouds, with grass tufts and small plants up front. Patches come in different sizes, which is good practice for careful coloring. Golden yellow with chestnut brown patches works well, and soft oranges and pinks give the sun a sunset glow. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big sun and the giraffes' heads, ears and legs in sunny yellow.
- 2Fill the long necks and bodies of the giraffes with golden yellow, and color the tall giraffe's ear in coral pink.
- 3Add caramel brown patches across the necks, bodies and backs of all the giraffes.
- 4Paint the sky in sky blue, the distant hills in steel blue and dusty blue, and the tree trunks in chestnut brown.
- 5Color the grass, bushes and tree tops in lime green, grass green and pale green, and fill the rock in medium gray. Leave the clouds white.
- 6Optional: add a little shading on the giraffes' legs and bellies with a slightly darker golden yellow for depth.
