Two tall giraffes spread their front legs wide and lean down to dip their noses in a rippling watering hole, while a small baby giraffe stands next to them and looks out at you. All of them have big patchwork spots, little horns, large ears and bright eyes. Around the water you'll see grassy tufts, leafy bushes, rocks and cattails along the edge. Further back there's a flat-topped acacia tree, distant hills and puffy clouds in the sky. The detailed spots give older kids plenty to work on, while the big pond area is simple for younger children. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sky and clouds in sky blue, leaving the tree canopy white for a soft, airy look.
- 2Fill the pond and its ripples with sky blue, then add lime green to the grass banks and bushes around the watering hole.
- 3Color the giraffes' heads, ears and horns with butter yellow and peach, leaving the eyes white so they sparkle.
- 4Paint the giraffes' spotted bodies with burnt orange and golden yellow, working around each outlined spot.
- 5Add the rocks in warm gray and khaki, and the baby giraffe's legs in cream yellow.
- 6Optional: Add a darker touch of dark brown to the hooves and steel blue to the distant hills and trees for depth.
