Sitting on top of a curved grassy hill, this grasshopper has big shiny eyes and a wide open smile, and he's rubbing his arm against his wing as if playing a song. Three music notes and swirly lines float beside him, so you can almost hear it. Two long segmented antennae curve up over his head, and his big back leg with a zigzag edge is folded up behind his body. Tufts of grass fill the bottom corners and the left side. Large shapes and clean lines suit preschoolers and early elementary kids. Bright lime green for the grasshopper and yellow and orange for the notes will make them pop. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big grasshopper body and head in lime green, leaving the eye whites and the small shine spots on the eyes white.
- 2Fill the large wings and the long back legs with forest green, then add the yellow inner wing sections in lemon yellow.
- 3Color the held leaf, arms and hands in leaf green, and fill the lower legs and feet with bright green.
- 4Paint the belly segments and stripes in lemon yellow, and add the pink tongue with coral pink.
- 5Finish the grass blades at the sides and bottom in forest green, leaving the ground highlights white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading along the lower edges of the wings and the belly to make the grasshopper look rounder.
