Halloween Mouse in a Witch Hat with Candy Basket

This cheerful little mouse is standing on a front doorstep, holding a woven basket packed with wrapped candies and a swirly lollipop. On its head is a pointed witch hat with a leaf tucked into the brim, and a leafy collar sits over its round, pumpkin-style body. You'll also see big round ears, wide sparkly eyes, whiskers and a curly tail. A grinning jack-o'-lantern with a triangle nose and toothy smile sits right beside it. Behind them is a paneled front door with an arched window and a round doorknob, a wall lantern on each side and bushes along the edges. There are big areas and tiny details here, so it works for kids who like either. Orange and green are good picks for the pumpkin and leaves, and the candies in the basket can be any bright mix. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the wall siding strips on both sides of the house and the window sun in pale butter, leaving the lantern glass for later.
- 2Color the window arch and sky in sky blue, then fill the door and door frame with caramel brown and the door knob with golden yellow.
- 3Paint the mouse face, body and paws in light gray, and fill the inside of both ears with light pink.
- 4Color the witch hat and the body of the mouse-pumpkin in pumpkin orange, add the purple hat band and grass green leaves on the hat and collar.
- 5Fill the basket with caramel brown, add the candy wrappers in soft violet, purple and teal, and color the lollipop swirl in purple.
- 6Finish the bushes and grass in forest green and grass green, the big pumpkin in pumpkin orange with a golden yellow face, and the lanterns in golden yellow with dark gray tops. Optional: add a little darker shading on the mouse body and pumpkin edges for depth.
