Water Slide Fun With a Baby Blastoise Turtle

Arms stretched wide and tongue out in pure joy, a smiling baby turtle with big sparkly eyes and a feathery crest on its head zooms down a curvy water slide. Big splashes and droplets fly up around its feet. This is a cartoon-style turtle with a patterned shell, not a detailed Blastoise, which makes it a good fit for younger colorists. Behind it stand a tall wooden slide tower with a thatched roof and little flags, palm trees with coconuts, a second thatched hut, a wooden fence, and a pool with ladder rails and rippling water. Flowers and leafy plants fill the corners. Soft greens on the shell and skin, bright blue for the water and splashes, and sunny yellow for the flags all work well. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with sky blue for the water streaming down the slide, the splashes at the bottom, and the pool on the right.
- 2Color the slide edges and rims golden yellow, and use orange for the outer sides of the slide curves.
- 3Fill the turtle's head, neck, arms, and feet with lime green, then add yellow green to the spiky crest on top of its head.
- 4Color the shell plates soft yellow and the tail warm brown. Use rust orange for the tunnel entrance and the tower posts.
- 5Add forest green and leaf green to the palm trees and bushes, grass green to the smaller plants, and bright red to the flowers and flag. Finish with cherry red for the tongue. Leave the eye whites, the eye shine, the sky background, and the distant hut white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading under the shell and along the slide edges to make the colors pop.
