Grinning with big sparkly eyes and round blushing cheeks, a cheerful chibi-style Blastoise takes center stage. One little hand is raised to hold the string of a diamond-shaped kite that has a crisscross frame and a tail of four bows. The two shell cannons are drawn nice and chunky, and the shell has a simple honeycomb pattern that's easy to color. Behind the turtle are a small round tree, two puffy clouds, tufts of grass and a pair of flowers in the bottom corner. Younger kids with crayons will like the large open areas, and the bows and shell give older kids more to do. Sky-blue for the body and a red and yellow kite will stand out against the clouds. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big turtle body and head in light green, leaving the eye shines and the cannon openings white.
- 2Color the shell in brown and the shell rim in forest green, adding the cannons on the back in forest green bands.
- 3Fill the belly and lower body with pale yellow, then shade the front arms and feet with grass green.
- 4Color the kite panels in red, golden yellow, orange and sky blue, and keep the kite string white.
- 5Add the bows in red and golden yellow, then the pale blue cloud, the tree canopy in grass green and the trunk in brown.
- 6Finish the face with pink cheeks and mouth, and color the flower petals in lavender purple and golden yellow. Optional: add a little extra brown on the shell edges for depth.
