Little Architect Crab Making a Shell-Face Sandcastle

Sitting behind a mound of sand, a smiling crab with big round eyes pats the pile with both claws like a tiny beach architect. The mound has its own face made of seashells: two scallop shells for eyes, a small spiral shell for a nose, and a curved row of little shells for a grin. Nearby are a starfish, more shells and pebbles scattered in the sand, and a bucket with a curved handle on the right. Wavy lines in back show the ocean meeting the horizon, with two fluffy clouds and a bright sun with rays above. Bold, open shapes suit preschoolers and early elementary kids. Coral red for the crab, soft pink and cream for the shells, and sunny yellow sand would look good. Easy to print at home or in class, and free. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big sea areas: color the ocean behind the crab and along the shore in ocean blue, leaving the thin wave lines white.
- 2Color the two clouds and the sea strip in pale sky blue, and fill the sun center with sunny yellow, keeping the rays white.
- 3Paint the whole crab body, both claws, and all the legs and arms in coral red, using light gold for the shaded back legs and golden orange for the lower left leg.
- 4Color the bucket in bright blue with a sunny yellow handle, and paint the starfish in orange and the small pebble in stone gray.
- 5Add the face details: color the open mouth deep red, the tongue pink, the nose shell cream, and the right eye shell soft lavender. Keep the crab's eye whites, the sandcastle, and the sand white.
- 6Optional: add a little shading to the crab's legs with a darker coral red and a few light blue strokes in the sea near the shore for depth.
