Happy Farmer Driving a Tractor Across the Plowed Field

Grinning from the driver's seat, this farmer in a wide-brimmed straw hat and overalls steers a big tractor with a canopy roof. The tractor has chunky treaded tires, round headlights, a slatted grille, side mirrors and a tall exhaust pipe. It rolls over a field of curved furrow lines, with low bushes along the horizon. Up above, a round sun with straight rays sits next to a few puffy clouds. Preschoolers and early elementary kids will find the big shapes and bold outlines easy to handle, while older kids can take their time with the tire treads and furrows. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big sky: fill the clouds and the cab windows with sky blue, leaving the cloud outlines bright and clean.
- 2Color the plowed field with earth brown, and add the green bushes on the left and right with leaf green.
- 3Fill the tractor body, hood, cab roof and front fender with tomato red, then use dark gray for the tires, grille bars and exhaust pipe.
- 4Paint the farmer's face and hands light peach, his overalls navy blue, and his hat and sleeves golden orange.
- 5Add sunny yellow to the sun, the wheel rims, headlights and steering wheel details, leaving small white shine spots on the tires.
- 6Optional: Add a little extra darker shading on the tire edges and the far side of the hood to give the tractor more depth.
